The Lafayette Geological Society, with a current membership of 370, is most proud of its publications relative to the science of geology and its assistance to the students and faculty of the University of Southwestern Louisiana. The Society established an endowment scholarship honoring former USL Geology Professor William R. Paine. This scholarship will award cash scholarships to deserving USL geology students. In the Spring of 1998, the AAPG accepted the USL Student Geological Society as a Student Chapter of the AAPG. William Terrell, LGS student liason, and Bryan Locke, Ph.D., USL faculty sponsor, assist the student chapter.

The Houston Geological Society has been affiliated with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists since 1932. Several Houston geologists helped to organize AAPG and many members have served as officers, have held important committee assignments, and have been honored with significant awards. Many of the presidents of AAPG were HGS members. The national AAPG convention has been held in Houston nine times, the last being March 1995.

The Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies (GCAGS) was formed in 1951 as an affiliation of twelve geological societies in the Gulf Coast area, and is the Gulf Coast regional organization of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG). The GCAGS provides an organizational structure to participate in, and be represented in the business of the AAPG, and also provides for the discussion and publication of papers on subjects concering the geological profession as it relates to Gulf Coast area geology. These papers are presented at an annual GCAGS convention, and are published in the annual Transactions of the Association.

Founded in 1919, DGS is a constituent member of the Southwest Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and, as a non-profit entity, strives to advance the professional interests of all geoscientists in the Dallas area, regardless of the geoscientific discipline they practice or the industry in which they serve. The DGS currently serves over 350 members. DGS cooperates with other geological organizations such as The Geological Society of America (GSA), The Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists, The American Geophysical Union, and The Society of Exploration Geophysicists to provide information and services to our members.
