ETGS November Presidents Letter 11/10/2011

Happy Thanksgiving…. I can already taste that Greenberg turkey, but before we get to that we have a great November luncheon planned for November 16, 2011.

The November luncheon will be bigger and better than the usual luncheon with a large group from Stephen F. Austin State University, Geology Department providing the entertainment.   Dr. Kevin Stafford will be the featured luncheon presenter accompanied by a group of graduate students and faculty presenting posters detailing their current projects.  Dr. Kevin Stafford’s talk is titled Hypogene Diagenesis and Carbonate Porosity within the San Andres Formation, Yates Field, Pecos County, Texas.  Kevin’s talk will give a great overview of the Yates Field porosity system.

Due to the inclusion of posters by SFA graduate students and faculty plan to spend a little extra time at the luncheon.  The posters will be available for viewing from 11 AM to 1:30 PM

To make reservation for the luncheon, visit ETGS website: http://www.easttexasgeo.com/

TBPG update:  At a special TBPG board meeting, November 7, 2011, the TBPG board unanimously withdrew the proposed rule changes and also re-affirmed the exemption of exploration and development of oil, gas or other energy resources from licensing under the Texas Geoscience Practice Act.   Hopefully, this will permanently end any effort to impose licensing on the working oil and gas geologists.

Have a great November,

Tom Smith
