February 2022 - Ernie LaFlure

Thanks to everyone that attended our January meeting, we greatly appreciate the excellent turnout. Don’t forget that this Friday SFA is hosting Gretchen Gillis, AAPG President and all ETGS Members are invited. Late breaking news, due to the winter storm headed our way; this is likely to be a “zoom” only event. Zoom details are on the flyer on our website.

For our February 16 meeting, Jonathan Rotzien will present "Sed/strat ‘ain’t dead yet’: Exploring the new variability in deep-water sedimentation.” We are also working on a short course offered by the BEG on an introduction to water floods that is suitable for geologists and new engineers without water flood experience. It will be at a very reasonable cost, we will only need to cover venue fees. We are considering the day before the Expo and I will have more details at our February meeting, along with a signup sheet to gage interest.

January 2022 - Ernie LaFlure

Happy New Year! Your ETGS Board has decided that we will proceed with our regular in person January meeting. We are monitoring the “Omicron variant” status but have decided not to cancel.

Our Wednesday, January 19, 2022 meeting, will feature David Allen discussing “Challenges and Solutions of Low Resistivity Pay”. David is with Schlumberger, and Paul Hene highly recommends the talk. For our February 16 meeting, Jonathan Rotzien will present "Deep-water sedimentary systems: Processes, products and implication".

The Tech and Prospect Expo is back in 2022! Please save the date for the Tyler Rose Center, March 28-29 2022. Please consider being an exhibitor or sponsor for this great event. In addition to the exhibitor area and great networking lunch, we will be having two speaker sessions. Our morning “technical session” will be made up of two or more BEG speakers from their STARR program. Lorena Moscardelli that leads the program will kick it off with an overview of their research projects. Then Dr. Ian Duncan, along with potentially other members, will discuss new refrac and secondary recovery research. The afternoon session will be more "State of the Industry" oriented. Karr Ingham, the Consulting Petroleum Economist with the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, spoke at the SW AAPG section meeting in Fort Worth and Rich Adams thought it was excellent. Karr Ingram will give an updated and expanded version of that talk. We may possibly add another speaker to this session.

December 2021 - Ernie LaFlure

Happy Holidays! As I indicated last month, your ETGS Board has decided that with the only meeting date ETGS could arrange this month was December 22, and that this date was too much in the middle of Holiday events to proceed, so the December meeting is canceled.

At our Wednesday, January 19, 2022 meeting, David Allen will discuss “Challenges and Solutions of Low Resistivity Pay”. David is with Schlumberger and Paul Hene highly recommends the talk. For our February 16 meeting, Jonathan Rotzien will present "Deep-water sedimentary systems: Processes, products and implication".

The Tech and Prospect Expo is back in 2022! Please save the date for the Tyler Rose Center, March 28-29 2022. With the rebound in energy prices, some of you may wish to consider being exhibitors or sponsors for this great event. Your Board member, Matt Bailey, is once again leading this event. We are still working on speakers, so we are open to any great ideas you may have. Just advise Matt, myself or one of the other Board members.
