April 2022 - Ernie LaFlure

ETGS Member,

It was great seeing many of you and reconnecting at the ETGS Tech and Prospect Expo on March 29 2022 at the Tyler Rose Center.  The participation by you and our great sponsors and exhibitors are what make this event a success!  We had some 220 participants and our exhibit area was nearly full.  We also had a great turnout at our icebreaker the night before.  A special shout out of appreciation goes to Matt Bailey for once again organizing the event.  Also, providing terrific help and assistance were Hunter Carr with the Icebreaker and speaker tech setup and Barbara Cade on the whole registration process.  Rachel McNerney helped with the zoom setup for our remote speaker.  We had a very large increase in cost in offering the ribs option to our excellent barbeque lunch and special thanks goes to Rusty Jackson stepping up to the plate with a donation to help make that happen again.

For our Wednesday April 20 meeting, we will have David Allen from Schlumberger presenting “Challenges and Solutions of Low Resistivity Pay”.   As always, please register timely, so we can have a good head count for our lunch.  Hunter Carr and Paul Hene will be hosting this meeting as I am unfortunately out of town.

Please remember, on April 22 the SFA Geology Department has invited ETGS members to their IBA Team Celebration at the Fredonia Brewery at 5 pm (see website for details).  Also, later in the month, we have our 10th annual ETGS SKEET SHOOT at ROSE CITY FLYING CLAYS: Tyler, Texas on SATURDAY, APRIL 30, 2022, please sign up at our website for this always-great event.

The week prior to our Expo there were also some great speakers, very relevant to ETGS at the 2022 NE Texas Energy Summit.  For those of you unable to attend, the presentations are all available via the youtube link below.  The whole video is over 2 hours so you may not be prepared to watch it all at once.  The first presentation is by Todd Staples, President of the Texas Oil & Gas Association and a very good industry perspective on current policy.  The 2nd presentation by Michael Nassi is excellent and policy oriented and starts at time 37:45.  I believe the most exceptional and important presentation is by Dr. Scott Tinker at 1:21:23.  His balance of world poverty, environmental and energy policy interrelationships is, I believe, among the very best in the world, enjoy!
